PaveGuard BioMist is an Australian-developed, spray-applied bio-based asphalt rejuvenator designed for preventative maintenance of oxidised asphalt pavements.
Unlike a conventional sealcoat that forms a heavier protective layer over the pavement, BioMist is designed to penetrate into the upper binder-rich zone of the asphalt and condition the aged near-surface binder.
Applied as a fine mist to structurally serviceable asphalt, PaveGuard BioMist provides asset owners with an additional pavement-preservation option between do-nothing maintenance and higher-cost resurfacing or rehabilitation treatments.

Asphalt progressively ages through exposure to oxygen, sunlight, temperature and the environment.
Over time, the bituminous binder near the pavement surface can become increasingly oxidised and stiff, contributing to a dry, weathered pavement surface and eventually increasing susceptibility to cracking and deterioration.
PaveGuard BioMist has been developed as an early-intervention pavement preservation treatment, intended for pavements that are showing signs of ageing but remain structurally suitable for preservation.
The objective is to treat the pavement before deterioration progresses to the point where resurfacing or structural rehabilitation is required.

The best candidates are pavements where ageing and oxidation are evident, but significant structural failure has not yet developed.

PaveGuard BioMist is applied to the asphalt surface as a controlled fine spray.
1. Surface Wetting
The low-viscosity treatment is distributed uniformly across the existing asphalt surface.
2. Penetration
The rejuvenating components are designed to migrate into the upper binder-rich zone of the pavement rather than creating a thick coating over the surface.
3. Binder Conditioning
The bio-derived conditioning package interacts with the aged near-surface binder, with the objective of improving the condition of the oxidised surface zone.
4. Pavement Preservation
By treating ageing asphalt earlier in its deterioration cycle, BioMist can be incorporated into pavement-life-extension and preventative-maintenance strategies.
The treatment may initially darken or refresh the pavement appearance; however, colour change is not the primary measure of performance. Absorption, binder response, surface condition and safety are more meaningful indicators.
